What Does a Medical Courier Do?

A medical courier is a specialized transportation professional who safely and securely transports time-sensitive medical materials between healthcare facilities, laboratories, pharmacies, and patients. They serve as the critical link in the healthcare supply chain, ensuring vital medical items reach their destinations quickly and intact. 


Our Training Program provides all of the training and certifications that are required by the DOT, and additional courses that will put you in a more desirable position for companies looking to hire medical couriers. 


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Specimen Transport - Blood samples, urine specimens, tissue samples, and other diagnostic materials
  • Medical Supply Delivery - Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, surgical instruments, and emergency supplies
  • Document Handling - Lab results, medical records, insurance forms, and patient files
  • Equipment Transport - Portable medical equipment, testing devices, and specialized machinery
  • Emergency Deliveries - Urgent medications, blood products, and life-saving materials

· OSHA: Hazard Communication (HazCom) Training for Medical Couriers 

· OSHA: American Heart Association Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Training 

· HIPAA Privacy and Security Compliance Training for Medical Couriers (Business Associates) 

· CyberSecurity Awareness Training 

· Sexual Harassment Prevention Training 

· OSHA: Workplace Fire Safety Training for Employees 

· Medical Courier: Specimen Collection and Transportation Best Practices


U.S. D.O.T. 49 CFR 173.6 – Materials of Trade Exceptions:

Ch. I § 173.6 (c)(4) The operator of a motor vehicle that contains a material of trade must be informed of the presence of the hazardous material and must be informed of the requirements of this section.
